White-backed Vulture

White-backed vulture Gyps bengalensis has declined by more than 99% in Pakistan, India and Nepal since early 1990s, and is now classified as Critically Endangered. Diclofenac Sodium, a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID), used in livestock, is the main cause of mortality that causes kidney failure in vultures. Vultures are ecologically important because they consume dead animals and clean the environment.
